This term we have lots of interesting topics to look forward to and we will be sharing photos along the way.
English - This term, we will be looking at the modern classic Charlie and the Chocolate factory and later at the Classic Fiction of Treasure Island. Also in our non-fiction work, we will focus on instructions and we will look at literary language in personification poems.
Maths - In Maths, we use White Rose to support our teaching and learning. Our topics include Place Value, Addition and Subtraction, Statistics, Multiplication and Division, and Area and Perimeter.
Science - This term's topic is Properties and Changes in Materials. We will also be starting our topic of Earth and Space which will continue after Christmas.
History - Our work on the past will explore the Anglo Saxon invasion and settlement of Britain followed by the Viking and Anglo Saxon struggle for the kingdom of Britain.
Computing - In our computing work we will be exploring internet safety, looking at search engines and making music using the Sonic Pi platform.
Jigsaw - Our topics this term are 'being me in my world' and 'celebrating difference'.
Art - We will be exploring the use of sketch books and developing our basic skills.
Design Technology - We will be learning a variety of stitching techniques and making small stuffed toys. We will also use our skills to make Viking style pouches.
PE - On Tuesdays, Jo Brown will be working on dodgeball skills with us and on Wednesday afternoons we will have the Sports for All team.
RE - Our RE topic is called 'Why do people believe in God?'
French - In our French work, we are building vocabulary and sentences structure with Gulay, our French assistante.
This week we designed our own stuffed toys, made templates and cut out our shapes in felt. We will be learning how to sew blanket stitch to join the edges of our material together.
We had great fun learning about the Vikings whilst taking part in a wide range of activities from handling artefacts to making rune stones from clay.
AJ, who we know well from sports sessions, will be spending Monday mornings with us discussing discrimination, racism, diversity and bullying.
For this day to celebrate languages, Year 5 chose Belgium. We looked at the art of Renee Magritte, exercised to French music, ate waffles with chocolate and had a thoroughly enjoyable day.
In Science, we mixed a range of substances with water and observed the effects.
