Reading
Reading books will now be changed on Mondays and Thursday only.
Reading folders and books should only be brought in to school on those days.
Once a book has been returned to school, it will be quarantined for 48 hours.
A teacher/TA will listen to your child read on a fortnightly basis during Guided and 1:1 reading. We may not always be able to write comments in the reading diaries as the diaries are only to be in school on Mondays and Thursdays, but we do listen to the children read every fortnight. At home, please continue to write comments in their reading diaries to facilitate communication between home and school regarding your child’s reading.
Homework
Homework will be issued digitally every Friday.
Spellings and times tables will be tested every Friday in school.
The aim is to know your multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12 x 12.
P.E
During the Autumn Term, our PE days will be Mondays and Thursdays. Please come to school in your PE kits on those days. I am currently waiting for conformation from Altrincham Leisure Centre regarding a start date for our swimming lessons. I will be in touch in due course.
English
In the first half term we are focusing on Egyptian Cinderella by Shirley Climlo. During this unit, we'll be convering a lot of literacy skills such as: comparing traditional stories; describing different Egyptian gods and goddesses; developing inference skills; writing Rhodipis’s diary; creating text messages from the Pharaoh; making a story map; acting out Pharaoh's noisy journey; joining in a class debate about the ending of the story; preparing a drama performance; drafting and editing a new story and presenting and illustrating a piece of writing.
We'll then move on to focusing on Aesop's Fables. We'll do lots of work over 3 weeks, with the final outcome being that we'll write our own fabulous fables.
Maths - We follow the NC. Pupils also enjoy a weekly session of Active Maths.
Art/D&T- We will learn how to make papyrus and design a scarab beetle/pharoah papyrus drawing.
