Autumn Term 2018
This term we have lots of interesting work in store:
In Maths, we will be consolidating formal methods of calculation as well as working with fractions and 2D and 3D shapes.
In English, we are exploring classic fiction and looking specifically at the 'Just William' books by Richmal Crompton.
In Science, we are learning about classification and the work of Carl Linnaeus to help us to understand why we sort all living things into different groups.
In RE we will be exploring Islam by looking at questions such as - What is life like for a Muslim in Britain?
In Art, connected to our Islam topic we will be working on Islamic calligraphy and also traditional henna patterns.
In D&T, we will be focusing on Arabic food and we will be getting a visit from the Fun Food Chef, so watch out for the photos!
Our History work will focus on the early Islamic civilization of Baghdad in AD 900 and we will find out how discoveries made then are still relevant today.
Our Geography work will be based on using maps and working out 4 and 6 figure grid references, whilst also drawing sketch plans of the local area.
All in all, a busy term ahead!
Today (19th December) in our DT work we first sampled a range of typical Middle Eastern foods then we made some cheese filled pastry rolls which we flavoured with either olives, parsley or coriander.
In our Jigsaw PHSE work, Year 6 explored scenarios involving bullying and created role plays to help us understand what this involves and how to deal with it.
