Friday 1st May 2020
Good morning Year 6! Can you believe it is May?! If things were ‘normal’ right now we would be preparing for SATs in school! Instead, we have just completed our 6th week of school closure and home learning – we really wouldn’t have believed this if we’d heard it at the start of the year would we!
I hope you are all well and finding lots to do during these rainy days…where has the sun gone?!
Your tasks for today are as follows…
Continue to spend about 10 minutes working on your times tables on TTRS or hit the button in order to keep your fluency with them up – you don’t want to be going to secondary school without your knowledge of these!
Your main maths task today is to complete the challenges that I have linked below. They begin easy and get progressively harder as you work through them. We have done lots of work on solving problems like this during our time together in Year 6 and I know you guys love solving challenges…so much so that often you want to stay in at break to complete a challenge rather than go out to play! I love that attitude and hope it has remained during the school closure. Good luck with these challenges. As always, read each question carefully so you answer exactly what it is asking.
English: spellings and reading
Continue to work on your spellings as needed.
Also, for your main English task today, complete the reading lesson I have linked below. The lesson includes extracts from The London Eye Mystery. We read the beginning of the sequel to this (The Guggenheim Mystery) in class during our guided reading lessons. I would recommend both of these books if you wanted ideas of any new ones to read whilst in lockdown. I hope you enjoy it!
To keep your minds healthy and positive, remember to complete your daily well-being activity where possible. For today’s well-being activity, have a look at the mindfulness challenge cards that I have linked below. You might want to do these alone or with your family members. I hope that doing some or all of the challenges helps you to feel calm.
Your topic tasks for this week…
Keep working on your science chilli challenges too. I hope you enjoy learning all about this new topic! Also, don’t forget to keep going with Joe Wicks if you can. Keeping active and healthy will be the best way to fight off the virus.
I hope you are all well and that you have a wonderful weekend with your families.
