Re: Funeral of Mr Keith McCartney
Monday 13th October 2014
12.45pm at Christchurch, Thorley Lane, Timperley
PARTIAL SCHOOL CLOSURE from 12.00 noon
As many of you know, our much loved and respected Site Manager of 25 years, Mr Keith McCartney died, in service, last Friday morning. Nearly all the school staff and members of the wider school community would wish to pay their respects to a man who was at the heart of our school family for such a long time.
I have consulted with the school governing body and we have decided to implement a partial closure for that day. The school will be open all morning up to 12.00 noon. The school will then close for the rest of the day.
The decision to partially close the school is not taken lightly and I understand the inconvenience this may cause. However, the depth of feeling at the loss of such a great servant of the school indicates the necessity of marking his passing in an appropriate way.
The family would welcome those who knew Mr McCartney to attend the church service at Christchurch on Monday afternoon. The family have also requested that, rather than sending floral tributes they would rather donations be made to St Ann's Hospice, Heald Green (where Keith was cared for during the last few days of his life).
The school is planning to hold a simple memorial celebration in school at a later date so that the pupils can take part in celebrating the life of Mr McCartney.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
Mr P Linnett
