Visit from Beth Tweddle

The school was absolutely delighted to receive a visit from Beth Tweddle, the three times World Champion British Gymnast on Wednesday 16th December.

As well as world champion, Beth is an Olympic games bronze medallist, a six-times European Champion, a Commonwealth Champion and a seven-times consecutive National Champion.

In 2013, Beth also took part in the very popular ITV show Dancing on Ice, which she won with her skating partner Daniel Whitson.

Beth was in school promoting gymnastics with the children and talking to them about the benefits of leading an active and healthy lifestyle. She also talked to them about setting goals and working hard to achieve those goals in life. It was a truly inspirational visit and I am sure that the children will have learned a lot from such a wonderful role-model.

This is our second world champion who has visited us at Cloverlea. About a year ago we welcomed Jenna Downing to school to talk to the children. Jenna was the roller blading World Champion  and she also gave the children an inspirational talk about her career in sport and the things that motivated her from when she was young.

It may interest parents to know that we have our own World Champion here at Cloverlea. Mrs Bolton, our Teaching Assistant who works in Years 1 and 2, is an accomplished and experienced swimmer. She holds the world record time for the 4 x 100m relay (Mrs Bolton swam the breaststroke leg) in the following category - the combined age of the four members of the relay team must be 160 years plus. This record was set in 2012, and a far as Mrs Bolton knows, this record still holds today.

Now that's impressive!
