We love learning for life
This term we are looking forward to learning lots of new things. Our first topic is called 'Where Do and Did the Wheels on the Bus Go?' We will be exploring where we live and then learning about the different continents in our journey around the world. We will be exploring how transport has changed since our grandparents were little and in science lessons we will be learning about different materials. Hopefully we will have fun designing and making our own wheeled vehicles so watch this space!
After half term we will be finding out how green fingered we are by learning about plants and growing some of our own. We also hope to do some simple cooking!
In 'Jigsaw' lessons we will be exploring dreams and goals and learning about how to be healthy. During RE lessons we will be learning about sacred places and we hope to visit Christ Church.
Our Walk to the Post-Box
In English, we read the story 'The Day that the Crayons Quit' and used this to help us to learn how to write a letter. We then wrote letters to our families which we posted ourselves. On the way to the post-box, we also looked at the different types of buildings and spotted different road signs.
Dodgeball
We are really enjoying our dodgeball PE lessons each week with Joe. We are learning lots of new skills and we have also played lots of games.
Our Journey Around the UK
In geography, we have been busy learning about the countries and capital cities of the UK. We made our own passports and 'travelled' together to each destination. We visited London where we made our own model of Buckingham Palace and made some London guards. In Wales, we made Welsh flags and daffodil bouquets. We even learnt how to say good morning in Welsh! Next we visited Scotland where we tried to weave some tartan and we enjoyed tasting Scottish shortbread! Finally we arrived in Ireland where we tried some Irish dancing and listened to the story of 'The Giants' Causeway'.
Goals and Dreams
Our Jigsaw work has been about goals and dreams. Jigsaw Jack has been helping us to understand how we sometimes need to achieve our goals by taking small steps. We made stretchy flowers to show how we sometimes have to stretch our thinking. We enjoyed sharing and celebrating what we are good at.
We are Authors!
In English we read different counting stories including 'Handa's Hen' and 'We All Went on Safari'. We then worked hard to make our own counting books which we shared with the Reception class. They were brilliant listeners! We also enjoyed reading our book to our Year 5 reading buddies.
