Maths
Maths lessons follow the National Curriculum. Pupils take part in weekly arithmetic sessions, Active Maths, and classroom based activities and challenges.
English
Children have daily English lessons that include reading, writing and a weekly grammar focus. We will cover a variety of text types in our writing during the half term.
Reading
Reading books should be in school every day as part of the morning ERIC (Everyone Reading in Class) routine. All Year 6 children are ‘Free Readers’ so can choose a reading book from Mrs Kerr’s classroom collection, the school library or bring one in from home.
We have guided reading within our daily English sessions, where we share more texts as a class, read together, discuss texts and our opinions of them, and answer questions relating to texts.
Children should continue to read at home daily where possible.
Homework
Homework is provided on Class Dojo every Friday. Children receive two MyMaths activities and an English task every week. In addition to this, spellings should be learnt for a weekly spelling test (every Wednesday morning), times tables should be revised using TTRS and children should be reading at home.
P.E
During the Summer Term, our PE days will be Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please come to school in your PE kits on those days. A sun hat is also recommended for these sessions during nice weather.
For more information on science topics and our foundation subjects, please see the Year 6 overview.
Regular communication is made via Class Dojo. Please check Dojo for in-depth details about your child's week at school, arrangements for homework etc.
