Inspiring children to care, learn and achieve

Thursday 30th April 2020

Thursday 30th April 2020

Hello everyone! Hope you are all having a good week and all still well. Did you do the quiz well-being activity from yesterday with your families? I hope you had fun if so! Besides working from home, I have been busy building wardrobes and putting up curtain poles in my new house – the jobs are never-ending! Really appreciative of the extra time to get these things done though, and I’m trying to look at this as a positive of the lockdown situation to feel better about not seeing my family now for so long.

Your tasks for today are as follows…

Maths: order of operations

Keep working on your times tables on either TTRS or hit the button (or both!) for about 10 minutes per day so that you can maintain your speed and accuracy with them.

After working on your times tables, please complete the lesson I have linked below on order of operations. Remember the trick here is not just to read the expressions from left to right, but to think carefully about the order in which the operations must be completed (remember BODMAS – the website calls it BIDMAS, but it is the same thing!).

English: spellings and hyphens and dashes

Continue to work on your spellings as needed.

After that, for today’s main English task, follow the link below to work through the exercises on using hyphens and dashes correctly and what the difference is between them.

Well-being: design a bear competition

To keep your minds healthy and positive, remember to complete your daily well-being activity where possible. For today’s well-being activity, why not design a super bear with a chance of having it made into a real cuddly toy? John Lewis are running a competition for children across the country to design a super bear…the winning design will be produced and will go on sale from October with 100% of the profits going to the NHS. Follow the link below to find out more information. Good luck!

Your topic tasks for this week…

Have you started working on any of the science chilli challenges that I posted yesterday? It was lovely to see some photos of some of your efforts already – what a keen bunch you are! Keep working on them and I hope you learn lots about the heart and our circulatory system.

Another topic area that might be interesting for you during your home learning is Ramadan. You may already know that Muslims all around the world are currently participating in this holy month. When we studied the Islamic religion in our first term of Year 6, we learnt that fasting during Ramadan is one of the five pillars of the Islam. The link below will take you to a lesson all about Ramadan if you want to further your learning on the topic.

Have a great day!
