Thursday 7th May 2020

Hello everyone! Hope you are all having a good week and that you are all ok.

Have you all seen the well-being activity from yesterday? I hope that I will have lots of entries – I have had one in already and it looks delicious! There is no rush though: remember, you have until 11am on Thursday 14th May to enter the competition. I am going to get baking this weekend too!

VE Day: a 75th anniversary

Tomorrow marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day. From our work on the world wars before the school closures, you should all know that this day marked the end of the Second World War in Europe. Watch the video on the link below to learn more about VE Day and VJ Day.

How amazing must that have felt?! We have been struggling with some of the changes lockdown has brought for seven weeks now. The second world war went on for far longer and brought many changes to life for people in many different ways…can you imagine how people felt once they heard that the war (which could have been the second in their lifetime) was finally over?!

My gran was a young girl during the Second World War. The other day I asked her if she would share her experiences with me as I was so interested in what it must have been like. I want to share what she wrote with you too as I thought many of you would be interested to hear her account. The link below is what she sent me via email. I hope you enjoy reading it!

Your tasks for today are all based around VE Day. Please choose some – or all! – of the tasks below to complete and have some fun whilst doing so! We will be having a small VE Day party in school for the key worker children. Are you doing anything special with your families or having a social distancing street party? If not, why not organise one at home? I would love to see some photos of what you get up to!

I won’t be providing any home learning tasks tomorrow due to it being a bank holiday. If you want some activities to complete tomorrow or over the weekend though, then please follow the link below for the Year 6 page on the BBC Bitesize website. You will have the maths and English lessons for Thursday 7th available to you, and any other topic lessons that I haven’t set.

Don’t forget to also continue working on your science chilli challenges before I post new ones!

Besides that, have a restful long weekend with your families as you have a busy week next week with it being SATs week! Don’t think that just because school is closed you are getting away without any SATs tests boys and girls… All will be revealed next week! wink
