Inspiring children to care, learn and achieve

WC 13.04.2020

Hello Nursery,

I hope you have had a lovely Easter weekend. I have been very busy in my garden planting some of the seedlings that I started to grow with you a few weeks ago. How are your bean plants and sunflowers getting on? The potatoes that we planted in the nursery garden are growing nicely and hopefully they will be ready for you to dig up when we can all be together again. Thank you for all of your super photographs that you have emailed me. You certainly have been busy! Please keep sending me your updates and new photographs and I will put them on our class PowerPoint so that you can see how your friends are doing.

Below are a few photo's to show you some of the things I have been up to this weekend with Harry. Can you spot my pets? I have a very silly cat that keeps getting into the dolls house that I am building- he's always sleeping in places that he shouldn't! My tortoise is enjoying the lovely weather we have been having and the best bit is that she eats the dandelions on the lawn so I don't need to dig them up.

This Weeks Activities:

1. Every Friday in Nursery we usually have a visit from Wendy or Caroline from 'Stretch and Grow' to help us learn through movement. They are still running their classes for free via their Facebook page or on YouTube. I have included the link below if you would like to join in with a session this week.

2. Did you know that Cloverlea are RHS School Gardening members? I signed us up to be a member a few years ago- they have great activities to help us learn about growing plants and looking after the world around us. This week I would like you to choose on of the activities below to make. Don't forget to send me your photographs.

3. For Numeracy this week please visit the White Rose Maths link below and choose 'week 1'. This week  focuses on an egg hunt.

4. Healthy Food Activity.

This week I have been talking to Harry about the importance of a healthy diet and how we need  to eat less of certain foods. I would like you to talk about all the different types of food we like to eat. Can you sort this food into healthy and unhealthy foods like the picture below? This was done with play food but you can do it with real food or pictures.

5. Pencil control and shadows.

Can you find some toy animals or cars and create a shadow picture like the one below? Remember to hold your pencil carefully. Talk about how the shadows got there- how were the shadows made?

6. Mr Potato Head.

Last week's numeracy activities were all about Supertato! Can you make your very own Mr or Mrs Potato Head out of food similar to the photograph below. Don't forget to take a photograph of him or her.
