Inspiring children to care, learn and achieve

Week Beginning 18th May 2020

Hi Year 6!

I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend and that you are all staying happy and well.

My posts will be a little bit different to usual again this week. This is due to the fact that this week counts as one of my half-term holiday weeks. Teachers at Cloverlea worked through their Easter holidays so they were able to provide work for their classes every day and could be in school with key worker children; however, we are having our half term breaks on rotation so we can still open to care for key worker children. Because I am in school next week, which should have been the half-term break, I have this week off instead. Therefore, I have uploaded all the work for you for this week to the web pages already.  Another difference this week, is that I have only provided 'normal' home learning work for four days. For these days, you have a maths, English and well-being task, as well as some new Viking and Anglo Saxons chilli challenges. For the other day of the week, you need time to complete the sports activities as part of our home school sports day. Your parents should have received a copy of the Joy of Moving Home School Festival Booklet via email (linked below). It is up to you which days you complete the usual home learning work and which day you participate in the sports activities.

There will not be any work provided for children at Cloverlea during the weeks that would have been the half term break (weeks beginning 25th May and 1st June). Remember though, that there are plenty of resources available to you online should you wish to keep working or want to keep your brain active. TTRS, hit the button, and BBC Bitesize will be available still and you could also continue to work on your spellings and history chilli challenges if needed. It is important to take a break too though: if you have been completing the work set every day, and continued to work through the Easter holidays, you have now worked for 13 weeks without a break – this is about two normal school terms back-to-back! No one knows what will happen from 8th June yet, but if we are back in school, you will need to be well-rested and ready for the challenges that lie ahead…

Bake Off Competition Winners

It was absolutely fantastic to see so many of you bake such incredible entries for the competition I set. I was AMAZED to see the photos of what you sent in and couldn’t believe we had such hidden talents! I wish I had found out what amazing bakers you are far earlier in the year and set it as your homework to bring a cake in each week for tasting in class wink

I asked the Cloverlea staff to help me with the judging as it would have been so hard for me to choose alone! Everyone voted for their 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice and I added the scores together to reveal the winners…

The top three winners will receive a prize, which will be delivered at some point next week (week beginning 25th May) after my half-term week and when I am walking to and from school again. Amazing effort from all of you who entered though and you should all be very proud of yourselves. It was a very close competition and I know staff really struggled to choose their top 3 as all entries were so fantastic! I hope you enjoyed making and eating the cakes!

I hope you all have a great few week and then enjoy your half term break after that. I know it won’t feel like a normal half term break with us not being able to go away, visit family or even get out an about as much as usual, but hopefully you can still enjoy it at home.

Sending lots of positivity and well wishes to you all,

Miss Boden smiley
