Meet the new Year 2 class!
Autumn Term 2015
This term our topic is called 'Healthy Me!' We will be learning about how to look after our bodies by exercising and eating healthily. In Design and Technology, we will be designing and making our own pizzas! To help us to learn about how they are made, we will be visiting 'Pizza Express' in Hale. We also hope to have a visit from the Fun Food Chef!
In history, we will be learning about Florence Nightingale and how she helped to improve hospitals.
Improving Our Football Skills!
This half term, we have been lucky enough to work with football coaches from Manchester United. We learn new skills, how to be a fair player and we took part in small team matches. It was great fun!
Our Visit to 'Pizza Express'!
On 14th October we visited 'Pizza Express' in Hale as part of our Design & Technology pizza project. We were made very welcome by all the staff from the moment we stepped through the door! We each got to make our own margherita pizza which we we able to take home to enjoy for our tea! We also tasted different ingredients used in the pizzas as well as some surprise ones such as anchovies and capers! As you can see from the photos, we really enjoyed ourselves!
The Fun Food Chef Visits Cloverlea
On Friday 6th November, the Food Fun Chef visited Year 2 to teach us more about Healthy Eating. We explored different types of Spanish foods whilst enjoying music from Spain. We made Paella, Coca con Pimientos (Spanish Bread), Catalan Chick Pea Salad (with chorizo) and Spanish Tortilla (Spain’s national dish). We also tasted cranberry Sangria! Check out our cooking and Jack's wonderful Spanish dancing!
We enjoyed taking part in our Christmas production which was called 'Baubles'. We all had some lines to learn or say and Mrs Harris was very proud of us!
Spring Term 2016
Our new topic is called 'Terrific Timperley!' We will be learning about the geography of Timperley Village and also what makes Timperley a great place to live. We will also be finding out what Timperley was like long ago! In RE we will be learning about the church and we hope to visit Christ Church. We will also be learning about the work of the great artist Lowry and hopefully, we will produce our own 'Little Lowry' pictures! In science, we will be learning about different materials and their uses. Towards the end of the term, we will begin a new topic about seeds, bulbs and plants.
Chinese New Year Dragon Dances
To celebrate the Chinese New Year, we took part in a 'Chinese dragon' dance workshop.
Marvellous Materials Challenge
In science we are learning about the properties of different materials. We were given a challenge to make a bridge from eight pieces of A4 paper which could hold the weight of a toy car. The bridge had to be at least 40cm long and could not be fastened down at the ends. We worked in small teams. It was quite tricky but we were very proud of our bridges!
Our Visit to Christ Church
On 17th March as part of our RE topic about churches, we visited Christ Church. Reverend Jim told us lots of information about the church and then we had time to explore some of the features. As it was nearly Palm Sunday, Reverend Jim told us the story and gave us each a palm cross. We enjoyed parading them around Christ Church.
This term we have been working with Clare from the 'Beth Tweddle School's Gymnastics' academy on a weekly basis. Not only have we really improved our gymnastics skills, but we have also had lots of fun! Thank you to all those parents who were able to attend our end of project display. If you were unable to, please enjoy the photos below!
Summer Term 2016
This term our topic work is all about living things. We will be finding out what plants need to survive and we will be exploring the different types of micro-habitats found in our wildlife area. We will also be thinking about why a dinosaur would not make a good pet!
In geography, we will be learning about African landscapes and in art we will paint our own African landscapes.
Later in the term (as a treat after our SATs!) we are hoping to visit Knowsley Safari Park where we will have the chance to spend a day with a ranger and get to feed some of the animals!
On 22nd April we were able to celebrate and share some of the work which we have done at our class assembly. We particularly enjoyed reciting the poem which we have learnt in class called 'An Alien Stole My Underpants!'
Knowsley Safari Park
As we are learning about Africa in geography and living things in science, on Tuesday 7th June we visited Knowsley Safari Park for an African Enhanced day. We had a fantastic time! First we took part in a workshop where we learnt about carnivores and herbivores. We also had the opportunity to touch a Giant African Snail, a giant hissing cockroach and for those who were very brave - a snake! Next we went on a walking tour with our guide Ellie where we met the meerkats and then saw the giraffes up close being fed bananas. Then it was off to the sea lion show where we got to each our lunch whilst watching lots of tricks. After that, we watched a birds of prey show. At one point we had lots of birds flying overhead so we had to keep ducking down. Finally before going back to school, we finished the day with a tour around the safari park on our coach.
