Inspiring children to care, learn and achieve

Year 5

Welcome to the Year 5 Home Learning Page

Dear all Year 5s,

How are you all doing? I miss not seeing you and I miss hearing your stories about what you have done at the weekend or during the holiday. I am really looking forward to seeing you again and finding out about your experiences during the school closure.

One thing that I miss is going to the hairdressers and getting my hair done. What have you been doing with your hair while the hairdressers are closed? My son-in-law's hair was getting untidy so my daughter shaved it all off! Surprisingly, it suits him and he is probably going to keep it like that.

Do you remember the 240 borek rolls that I made at the beginning of Ramadan? Well, there are only about 30 left as the Djennatis like to eat them every day during Ramadan. It ends next weekend so that's probably just enough to keep us going till then. Another thing that we have every day in Ramadan is a traditional Algerian soup called Harira (we don't tend eat it for the rest of the year). This Moroccan recipe is very similar to the one that we make and if you like very flavoured soups, you might like this one:

The Djennati girls enjoy making cakes and sweets and they really like making Oreo truffles. Have you ever tried them? They are very easy to make and don't require any cooking:

Remember to try to achieve a balance of learning and sport/creative activities each school day to keep your minds and bodies active. Also, keep to good routines so that you make good use of your days.

Don't forget to  use this time to boost your reading and times tables skills as these will help you with all aspects of learning.
